What is a P&C Association?
A Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) is a school-basedorganisationwith membership open to parents, teachers, students and interested citizens.
The P&C is not just a fundraising committee. It is also:
- A forum to bring parents, citizens, students and teaching staff together;
- It gives parents a chance to keep up to date with all school activities and to have a say in any issues that concern them or their child at our School.
- It is an opportunity to contribute to the School's resources through various fundraising projects and be involved in deciding how the money raised is spent.
- We also encourage parent and community participation in curriculum and other educational issues in our School.
So what does The Beresford Road Public School P&C do?
BeresfordRoadPublic School's P&C Committee works alongside the school staff to support the education of our children. We plan many eventsand fundraising activities throughout the year.At our monthly meetings we also hear a report from the Principal; discuss current issues and also plan for future events.
Some community events and fundraisers that the P&C have been involved in include:
- Mother's Day and Father's Day stalls for the students to purchase gifts for their parents or Grandparents.
- Christmas Peddler's Parade for purchasing Christmas gifts
- School Working Bee's to tidy up the grounds
- The annual coin challenge
- Mufti Days
- Other events such as market days and movie nights.
All of the above events require the volunteer services of our parents and teachers and do not come together without a lot of hard work and effort. While we understand that it is not always possible for parents to volunteer their time, the more parental support we have, the better off our school becomes and the more successful our events will be.
In the past few years we have worked hard to raise funds to put a Smartboard in every classroom. In 2013 we also managed to provide funds for the school to purchase a complete class set of iPads. We continue to raise funds for projects brought to our attention by teachers and parents alike.
You are most welcome to come along and see how your School P&C operates even if your child hasn't started school. Our meetings are open to everyone and new faces are always welcome. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month (except during school holidays) and begin at 7:30pm in the staffroom (enter via the front office).
The Annual General Meeting is held in March of each year at 7pm where the Executive Committee is elected (President, two Vice Presidents, Secretary and Treasurer) and also the Fundraising Committee and Uniform Shop Committee members are affirmed.
Every couple of months we also hold special Fundraising Meetings, sometimes at Gloria Jeans Coffee's at Pemulwuy, and sometimes in the school staffroom. These meetings give everyone a chance to share their ideas with us and volunteer their time and/or special skills with the P&C.
The P&C also run the school uniform shop on nominated days to enable parents to purchase all the clothing required for school and sports, including school bags, paint shirts and other school needs. Without this volunteer service, parents would need to go to shops outside of the Greystanes area to purchase uniform needs.
So as you can see, we are a busy bunch of people who are always appreciative of new faces and new ideas. If you would like more information or would like to volunteer for any of our planned events (see the events page), please email us on BeresfordRdPandC@y7mail.com or drop your details into the front office ladies who will pass them on to us.
